Monitoring – The Sentinal™
distributes logical data processing to the monitoring sites. A water
quality profile defining normal and acceptable water quality will be
established at each site. Through the utilization of sensors, the
Sentinal™ continuously evaluates the water quality profile to look for
changes that indicate contamination or a process malfunction. If a
significant change is detected, the Sentinal™ will instantly notify
appropriate personnel. The Sentinal™ is a lot like the human brain: It
“perceives” its environment through sensors, analyzes the information
and makes judgments about it, and takes action to notify someone of
detected problems. An audible alarm will be sounded and the
information of concern will be displayed on the computer monitor. The
operator will be required to acknowledge the alarm to shut off the
sound. The operator will be required to log the action taken and
will not be able to reset the alarm until the water quality is back to
normal. Sensors – The Sentinal™ works
well with most sensors and analyzers. The Sentinal™ can connect to
sensors already in place as well as to newly installed sensors. Clarion
has working relationships with the major sensor suppliers.

Data Presentation/Integration
– Information from the monitoring system can be presented through the
Internet, through a Local Area Network, or on a local terminal. The
data will be viewed and managed in a state-of-the-art graphical user
interface (GUI) that has data storage, analytical and trending
capability. Each monitoring site will have its
own web page to allow for specific site monitoring and for remote
configuration of the water quality profile of the site. The Sentinal™
system can be integrated into an existing system such as a SCADA or
site security System.
Communications – It is
important to have two-way communications with the monitoring system –
both for security and maintenance purposes, and the Sentinal™ can use
various means of communication. Wireless communications such as radios,
cellular networks, and satellites, and wired links like local area
networks (LANs) and telephone lines can be used to communicate with the
monitoring system. Typically, radio or cellular communications provide
flexibility where LAN access is not available. The Sentinal™ permits “on-demand” access to the monitoring system as well as the emergency notifications.
